Reading for March 27th (March 20th joining with Connect)

Hey guys sorry this is late- I got a bit distracted with the Edengrove U stuff that was tonight.

Anyhow- this one will be up for 2 weeks. This weekend Connect and BLAST will join up seeing our dumb baby is refusing to to come out, meaning that Brynn and I probably won't be there at the weekend.  I'll throw baby pictures and news up on here as soon as I'm able:)

So so far in BLAST we've been thinking about God- who he is and how we relate to him. For the next couple of weeks we're going to turn to look at the Bible.

Our faith is based on the bible- its pretty much how we know what we know about God. Its not just a history book, we believe its the Word of God.

When you think about it- that's a pretty crazy statement. This book, or collections of books, written by a bunch of different people over hundreds of years....why do we get to claim that it is God's word?

So 2 questions for you to think about. The first is to answer that question- why do you believe its God's word. If you haven't thought about it in that way and maybe don't have answer- no worries- we'll sort that out March 27th :)

The second is one  we've kind of talked about a bit in your comments last week. When it comes to reading your bible, for you,  what does that look like- what's your routine? when? how often? how do you decide what bits ,to read? do you use notes that explain stuff? What does your quiet time look like? what do you do- just read,  pray? Why do you do it- what do you feel you get out of it? Any cool stories you want to share?

I suppose I'm asking what your God time looks like. Now that is a personal question and don't feel you have to answer- and also this is not to try and make anyone feel guilty- when I was your age I would say I was a Chistian but I really didn't have any God time at all. So this isn't to try and guilt anyone into reading massive chunks of the bible every day- or create this weird thing where everyones pretending to be super-christians all the time- everyone has times when we're not where we'd like to be with God- my hope for us is that we will always always be totally honest with each other.

Mostly I just thought it would be interesting for all of us to hear and learn from each other how we approach the bible, and how we approach God

Commence blasting!

  1. i believe that the bible is the Word of God because ...
prophecys have come true so its not a load of rubbish

though i dont believe that the people who wrote it knew what to say as i believe that God told them what to write

sorry dont know really what to say

My routine would be that at night time I would read my Bible and follow readings on E100 though when i was doing this i found it hard to get anything out of it so i now read a book that is on the E100 and is just like a devotion and begins with a prayer and then u read and after u would read on what they say about it which would try to help u understand how this relates to your life and then after you would pray and ask God to help you remember this story and take what it says into your life eg. one day it was about God testing Abraham and then the prayer to help u know and be strong in ur faith when God tests you. So yea i would encourage u to buy that book it really helps me and the rest of my family who are doing it. Though if i have more time i would read some of the devotions from my sister Christy- handy downs our good lol !

k i am going to stop now cause i written loads for me anyway and I still need to get ready for the hockey match tommorrow against wallace

  4. Well before I have my quiet time I like to pray and ask God to speak to me through what I'm about to read. I then attack my Bible with a highlighter and if I have time I'll write down cool verses and my thoughts in a wee notebook. I do beleive that the Bible is God's word 'cause I've definitely heard God speak to me through it. I use the Word 4 U 2day notes and I think they really help.

  6. I better get my post done now, since the baby is coming whether it likes it or not on Sunday so I probably won't get around to it after that. I do believe that the Bible is God's word because it has been accepted as such for many years. I agree with your comments that there have been prophecies that have been verified. I think another reason I accept the Bible as God's word is that He has used it to speak truth in my life.
My time in the Bible isn't always the same. Right now I am doing the E100 (but I am really behind). I find that writing out my prayers and what I am learning through my reading in a journal helps me focus better. It is also nice to have a record of things to go back through and see how I have grown over time. I have found the times that I have learned the most from the Bible is when I have been a part of Bible study groups that had set homework every week. The accountability helped me get into the Word everyday and having the opportunity to talk with others about the study was beneficial as well.

  7. Sorry that I am only getting to post now, was sleeping over at my Nanny and Gradpa's house!!!

Well... I agree with Petra and Lydia about the prophecies and how they all came true. Another thing is creation, because who else would have the power and ability to do that only God!

At night I would read my Devotions ( which help me a lot!) and pray, and I agree with Petra I feel stronger and closer to God when I pray and to know that you have a Church family who are behind you and praying for you in time of need always gives me reassurance as well!!!!:)Talking of prayer,Brynn we will all be praying for you and your baby!

Lastly... Down High are da Best!! Sian and Rachel will agree

    God bless

  10. Glad you have remembered Rachel. Thats what everyone needs this sunday night- were heading on an adventure!! Haha.

DOWN HIGH all the way :D

Now on to what we're meant to be discussing:
1.) I agree with all your reasons why you believe the Bible is true
2.)M aim is to have it each day, on week days I read a passage (usually a chapter, if its long i'll maybe half it) on the way into tech in the mornings/ or if i'm to sleepy the way home. Generally I pick a book and read through it, it seems to work best for me. At the minute thats Acys I have a Word for you today as well and I've bought quite a few different types of devotional books but there haven't really been any i've liked/stuck with. Then in the evenings I'll have journal time- I may re read the passage or read something completely different, then write verses out that stuck out to me- wether that be encouragement or a challenge etc etc. pray and have a little worship time during the day with my ipod.
I have it to get to know God better.
