Reading for March 27th (March 20th joining with Connect)

Hey guys sorry this is late- I got a bit distracted with the Edengrove U stuff that was tonight.

Anyhow- this one will be up for 2 weeks. This weekend Connect and BLAST will join up seeing our dumb baby is refusing to to come out, meaning that Brynn and I probably won't be there at the weekend.  I'll throw baby pictures and news up on here as soon as I'm able:)

So so far in BLAST we've been thinking about God- who he is and how we relate to him. For the next couple of weeks we're going to turn to look at the Bible.

Our faith is based on the bible- its pretty much how we know what we know about God. Its not just a history book, we believe its the Word of God.

When you think about it- that's a pretty crazy statement. This book, or collections of books, written by a bunch of different people over hundreds of years....why do we get to claim that it is God's word?

So 2 questions for you to think about. The first is to answer that question- why do you believe its God's word. If you haven't thought about it in that way and maybe don't have answer- no worries- we'll sort that out March 27th :)

The second is one  we've kind of talked about a bit in your comments last week. When it comes to reading your bible, for you,  what does that look like- what's your routine? when? how often? how do you decide what bits ,to read? do you use notes that explain stuff? What does your quiet time look like? what do you do- just read,  pray? Why do you do it- what do you feel you get out of it? Any cool stories you want to share?

I suppose I'm asking what your God time looks like. Now that is a personal question and don't feel you have to answer- and also this is not to try and make anyone feel guilty- when I was your age I would say I was a Chistian but I really didn't have any God time at all. So this isn't to try and guilt anyone into reading massive chunks of the bible every day- or create this weird thing where everyones pretending to be super-christians all the time- everyone has times when we're not where we'd like to be with God- my hope for us is that we will always always be totally honest with each other.

Mostly I just thought it would be interesting for all of us to hear and learn from each other how we approach the bible, and how we approach God

Commence blasting!

First Reading- for March 13

Hey guys,
The first few weeks of BLAST we looked at our mission statement, who God is, and the Trinity. As Brynn, Christy and I met to plan what we would talk about at BLAST, we decided we'd use the Westminster Shorter Catechism as a guide. The Catechism is a little book  written to help teach people the basic doctrines (beliefs) of the Church. In the past, kids learned the catechism in Sunday School. Your grandparents and maybe parents learned the questions and answers.

So the very first question in the catechism is:
What is man's chief end?
And the answer:
Man's chief end is to glorify God and enjoy him forever

To put it another way, what's the number one reason why God made you?

1.Glorifying God- Showing how wonderful he is
2. Enjoying Him- enjoying how wonderful he is.

So if God created us to enjoy Him, its important to know how we can do that. You cannot fully enjoy a flower unless you stop and take a good look at it, and take a deep breath to see how wonderful it smells. You cannot fully enjoy an apple until you take a bite of it and find out how crisp and sweet it tastes. If you are going to enjoy God, you have to spend time finding out how wonderful he is.

Possible Questions you might want to respond to- or you might have something completely different to say!:
When you think about your life- where does this fit in, where and how do you glorify and enjoy god? Does it surprise you that this is the absolute number 1 reason God created you? Do you feel like you enjoy God? If I had just asked the question whats the number one reason God made you....what would your answer have been?

Ok so write a few sentences and post them as a comment by friday, and comment on as many other comments as you want :)
See you all soon!
